How long does USPS take to deliver a letter?
A stamped First-Class letter takes 2 to 5 days by the USPS standard: 2 or 3 days within your own 3-digit ZIP area in almost every case, usually 2 or 3 in-state, and 4 or 5 on most long routes.
USPS advertises 1-5 days because some business mail, such as presort First-Class, can have a 1-day standard. Standards are targets, not guarantees.
How much does it cost to mail a letter in 2026?
A standard First-Class letter (1 oz) costs $0.82 using a Forever Stamp. Each additional ounce costs $0.29. Postcards cost $0.65. Forever Stamps never expire and remain valid regardless of future price increases.
What size letter can I mail with a Forever Stamp?
A Forever Stamp covers letters up to 1 oz that are between 5-11.5 inches long, 3.5-6.125 inches high, and 0.007-0.25 inches thick. Square, rigid, or oversized letters may require additional postage.
Can I track a First-Class letter?
Standard First-Class letters do not include tracking.
To get a delivery record for a letter, add Certified Mail ($5.55) or Registered Mail, or send it as Priority Mail; USPS Tracking cannot be added to a First-Class letter.
How long does Certified Mail take?
Certified Mail does not make a letter faster.
USPS says Certified Mail is dispatched and handled in transit as ordinary mail, so it takes as long as the mail class you add it to: First-Class Mail (2-5 days for a stamped letter by the USPS standard) or Priority Mail (2-3 days).
It costs $5.55 on top of postage and gives you a mailing receipt and delivery tracking.
